Interactive Identification of Writing Instruments and Writable Surfaces by a Robot
نویسندگان
چکیده
This study asks the question: Can a robot learn to identify object-surface pairs that are useful for trace-making and, thus, facilitate writing? Writing is an important skill that humans use everyday and future household robots may have to master in order to be useful. Specifically, our robot performed scribbling behaviors with different objects on different surfaces and monitored which objects leave marks on which surfaces. The frequency with which marks were detected was used by the robot to group the writing instruments and the writable surfaces into meaningful categories, which capture their functional properties from the robot’s point of view.

Toward Learning to Write by Identifying Writable Surfaces
Writing is a powerful skill that humans use on a daily basis to convey and capture information. J.J. Gibson pointed out that writing is a special form of tool use, which requires a special tool that has the ability to leave a trace on a surface: “A hand-held tool of enormous importance is one that, when applied to a surface, leaves traces and this affords tracemaking. The tool may be a stylus, ...
متن کاملRobot Arm Performing Writing through Speech Recognition Using Dynamic Time Warping Algorithm
This paper aims to develop a writing robot by recognizing the speech signal from the user. The robot arm constructed mainly for the disabled people who can’t perform writing on their own. Here, dynamic time warping (DTW) algorithm is used to recognize the speech signal from the user. The action performed by the robot arm in the environment is done by reducing the redundancy which frequently fac...
متن کاملParticle Swarm Optimization Based Parameter Identification Applied to a Target Tracker Robot with Flexible Joint
This paper focuses on parameter identification of a target tracker robot possessing flexible joints using particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. Since, belt and pulley mechanisms are known as flexible joints in robotic systems, their elastic behavior affecting a tracker robot is investigated in this work. First, dynamic equations governing the robot behavior are extracted taking into acco...

Controversy has not been yet resolved among researchers in second language research over the pedagogical efficacy of feedback in enhancing various features of learners’ writing skill. Research findings highlighting the significance of interactive tasks and learners’ engagement in improving the learning process stimulated the present study, the purpose of which was to explore the effect of task-...
متن کاملStable Gait Planning and Robustness Analysis of a Biped Robot with One Degree of Underactuation
In this paper, stability analysis of walking gaits and robustness analysis are developed for a five-link and four-actuator biped robot. Stability conditions are derived by studying unactuated dynamics and using the Poincaré map associated with periodic walking gaits. A stable gait is designed by an optimization process satisfying physical constraints and stability conditions. Also, considering...
